Urban Meyer is the Jacksonville Jaguars’ new head coach.

It took a while, but the Jacksonville Jaguars have announced they have hired Urban Meyer as their new head coach after moving from Doug Marrone. Although the signing was kind of expected, it was fair to wonder if it could fall apart at the last moment.

The Jaguars made it clear Meyer was their favorite to land the job even though they also had reported interest in San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh, Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, Atlanta Falcons Interim head coach Raheem Morris, Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, and former Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett.

The Jacksonville Jaguars can move on to the next step of their rebuild.

Meyer can now get to work start assembling his coaching staff. Scott Linehan, who has long had a relationship with the former Florida head coach, has emerged as a prime candidate for the Jaguars, per Jeremy Fowler of ESPN. Once he gets he puts his coaching staff together, the Jaguars will then focus their attention on the free agency and the draft.

It will be interesting to see who this Jacksonville hires as their next general manager. Although there are no official reports, interim Trent Baalke could keep the position on a permanent basis. Whoever ends up getting the job will be in a prime position, alongside Meyer, to turn the team into a contender, as this Jacksonville team is projected to have $73.36 million in cap space, 11 draft selections, and a young core of playmakers.

What is social media saying about the Jacksonville Jaguars’ new head coach?

The reaction surrounding Meyer’s hiring has been mostly positive and rightfully so. He had a 187-32 as a head coach in college and won three National Championships, two at Florida and one at Ohio State.

Gators fans are ecstatic about the move.

Defensive end Josh Allen is one of many Jaguars players looking forward to playing for Meyer.

There is some mild but valid skepticism about Meyer making the jump to the pros.

Nevertheless, most were happy to see the Jaguars get Meyer.

Even those that are not fond of Urban’s hiring should change their mind once the head coach starts winning games. The Jaguars now have their new head coach, it’s time for them to turn things around.
