Does it make sense for Jacksonville Jaguars to trade for Deshaun Watson?

The Jacksonville Jaguars need a franchise quarterback.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are expected to use the first overall selection in the 2021 NFL Draft to take Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence, but what if they instead trade for an established signal-caller, someone like Deshaun Watson of the Houston Texans?

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk recently reported Watson has broached teammates he’s considering the possibility of asking for a trade. Moreover, the quarterback isn’t answering calls from the team and is extremely unhappy, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Media.

On the other hand, Texans’ new general manager Nick Caseiro said in his introductory press conference, Watson is their quarterback moving forward. Also, John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reports ‘under no circumstances will the Texans trade Watson‘.

Even though it seems like the Texans have taken a stand and aren’t willing to part ways with Watson, things can shift at any time and anything can happen in the NFL. Would they change their mind if they received a plethora of draft picks in exchange for the Clemson standout?

Speaking of draft selections, the ‘Jags’ currently have 11 and enough cap space to take on Watson’s salary. If they really wanted to, they could pull a blockbuster trade and get the Pro Bowl quarterback, but would it make sense to pass up the chance to draft Lawrence in the draft?
