The Jacksonville Jaguars must find a new quarterbacks coach in 2021.

Former New York Giants head coach, Ben McAdoo, is currently the quarterbacks coach down in Jacksonville. There was a glimmer of hope that he could help develop Gardner Minshew and rookie Jake Luton but the Jacksonville Jaguars really found no such luck.

With the Jaguars expected to select a quarterback with the number one pick in the draft, Jacksonville has to cut ties with McAdoo and hire someone who is capable of developing (presumably) Trevor Lawrence into a franchise quarterback.

Jaguars should consider these four candidates for QB coach:

Joe Bleymaier – Kansas City Chiefs – Passing game analyst/Assistant quarterbacks coach

Joe Bleymaier has been a major part of the Kansas City Chiefs’ successful offense. He’s served as their passing game analyst and assistant quarterbacks coach since 2018. He previously spent time as their offensive quality control coach for two seasons.

Bleymaier was one of the offensive minds responsible for creating the number one offense in the league and earning Patrick Mahomes II the NFL’s Most Valuable Player award in 2018. He has the chance to promoted to offensive coordinator if Eric Bienemy is hired as a head coach this offseason.

Ryan Lindley – Utah Utes – Offensive analyst

Ryan Lindley spent a handful of years as a backup quarterback in the NFL, starting only six games total in the end. But he gained a lot of experience learning by spending time under three different systems.

Following his retirement from the NFL, Lindley became a graduate assistant at San Diego State in 2017, eventually becoming the Cleveland Browns’ running back coach in 2018 and their quarterback’s coach in 2019. Currently, Lindley is an offensive analyst with the Utah Utes, who went 3-2 in their short 2020 season, a team well on their way to becoming the best team in the Pac-12 conference.

T.J. Yates – Houston Texans – Assistant quarterbacks coach

T.J Yates is another former NFL quarterback who spent most of his career on the bench. Yates said his time as a backup prepared him for his role as a quarterbacks coach, in which he had to stand back and take “mental reps” and even coach his fellow players.

Yates joined the Texans as an offensive assistant in 2019 and was promoted to assistant quarterbacks coach prior to the 2020 season and has taken part in the development of 2017 first-round pick, Deshaun Watson.

Shea Tierney – Buffalo Bills – Assistant quarterbacks coach

The Buffalo Bills have done an extraordinary job at developing quarterback third-year quarterback Josh Allen. Props to head coach Sean McDermott, offensive coordinator Brian Daboll, quarterbacks coach Ken Dorsey, and assistant quarterbacks coach Shea Tierney for helping turn a bottom-10 quarterback into a top-five quarterback and potential 2020 Most Valuable Player.

Tierney’s previously spent time as an offensive graduate assistant at N.C. State, an analyst and coaching intern with the Philadelphia Eagles, and as an offensive analyst for the Alabama Crimson Tide. It seems sooner rather than later that he will be promoted.
