The Jacksonville Jaguars’ general manager opening is one of the best.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have started the process of filling their general manager vacancy. They have already interviewed some candidates and have requested permission to meet with others. It’s uncertain how many candidates they will end up interviewing, but they have one of the most appealing vacancies in the league. In fact, Pro Football Focus believes it is the best one this year.

In a recent article, Mike Renner of PFF ranked the Jaguars’ general manager opening as the best one in the NFL. He cites their salary cap situation and their number of draft selections, including the first overall pick, as the two factors behind the position.

Renner acknowledges the ‘Jags’ have many holes to fill but thinks that any general manager ‘with an ounce of confidence’ will see it as a challenge instead of a problem. Moreover, he sees center Brandon Linder and linebacker Myles Jack as blue-chip players.

The Jacksonville Jaguars can afford to take their time.

The quicker the Jaguars hire a general manager, the faster they will be able to focus their attention on free agency and the draft. However, they need to perform due diligence and make sure they get the right person for the job. The fact they have an abundance of cap space and a plethora of draft selections should help them lure the best candidates.

Keep in mind their last two general managers, Gene Smith and David Caldwell didn’t do a good job of consistently supplying the roster with playmakers. That’s why it’s so important that this Jacksonville team gets it right.

It may sound like hyperbole, but the ‘Jags’ must hire the right general manager. They already have the resources in place to quickly turn this team into a contender. Now they need someone to use them correctly.
