NFL writer believes Brian Daboll should be next Jacksonville Jaguars HC
Would the Jacksonville Jaguars pull the trigger on Brain Daboll?
Now that the Jacksonville Jaguars are allowed to interview other team’s coordinators, they have started the process of finding their next head coach after moving on from Doug Marrone. The ‘Jags’ are in the process of scheduling interviews with potential candidates, such as San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh and they have been linked to former Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer. However, an NFL writer believes Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator is the best fit for the Jaguars’ head coach opening.
Steven Ruiz thinks Daboll could develop Trevor Lawrence, whom the ‘Jags’ will likely select with the first overall pick in 2021’s draft. He cites Daboll’s work with quarterback Josh Allen as the reason why he could be the right man to coach the Clemson quarterback. Moreover, Daboll’s ability to adapt and build an offense around the skill-set of his quarterback should make him an appealing candidate.
Why it makes sense for the Jacksonville Jaguars to pursue Brian Daboll.
The Bills’ offense currently ranks second in points and total yards. They have a 13-3 record and hold the second seed in the playoffs. Head coach Sean McDermott rightfully deserves plenty of credit for turning the team into a perennial contender and winning their first AFC South title since 1995. Nevertheless, he hasn’t done it alone and Daboll has played a key role in the team’s turnaround.
At the time of writing, Daboll hasn’t been linked to the Jaguars’ head coaching opening, but it could just be a matter of time before they request a meeting. They started programming interviews as soon as they could, and it wouldn’t be surprising to schedule one with Daboll. However, Jacksonville wouldn’t be able to hire him until Buffalo is out of contention.
Owner Shahid Kahn said in a sit-down with the local media he’s committed to a wide head coaching search and is willing to take his time to look at all possible options. If that’s the case, the Jaguars should target Daboll, who is one of the best candidates in this hiring cycle.
