Jacksonville Jaguars draft target: CB Paulson Adebo
The Jacksonville Jaguars should target cornerback Paulson Adebo.
The Jacksonville Jaguars could use some competition at cornerback. They seemed to have a promising young duo in Sidney Jones IV and C.J. Henderson but Henderson is still developing and Jones can’t seem to stay healthy.
Stanford’s Paulson Adebo has been an intriguing cornerback prospect since 2018. Following the 2019 season, Adebo decided to stay in school for another year instead of declaring for the NFL Draft. Had he declared, he very well could’ve been one of the first cornerbacks off of the board.
Adebo didn’t see any action during his freshman year at Stanford but his sophomore and junior seasons were very productive. Between these two seasons, he had 97 total tackles and eight interceptions. Adebo ended up opting out of the 2020 season over COVID-19 circumstances and declared for the 2021 NFL Draft.
Paulson Adebo’s skills should intrigue Jaguars.
Adebo, who is 6’1″ and 190 pounds, has the size and physicality to be a successful cornerback in the NFL. He has good length, great ball skills, and fluid hips. He may not be super fast or have great short-area quickness but he has solid instincts and does an adequate job in deep coverage.
If Adebo wants to adapt to the NFL level of talent, he has to improve in a few areas. He needs to improve his short-area agility in order to keep up with the kind of quick receivers that the NFL has to offer and he also needs to improve his footwork so he wastes no steps at the line of scrimmage.
The Draft Network has Paulson Adebo ranked as the ninth cornerback and the 62nd overall ranked prospect in this draft while CBS Sports has Adebo ranked as the 10th cornerback and 60th overall prospect. The Jaguars may just be able to steal him towards the end of the second round of the draft or possibly early in the third.
