The Jaguars need a new plan for their offense in 2021.

Actually, they need a complete rebuild.

The Jaguars’ regressing offense has been unimaginative and dry. Despite a breakout rookie running back and a promising young wide receiver corp, faulty quarterback play and stale play-calling have been the Achilles heel of this team.

A fresh start in 2021 is exactly what his offense needs and more.

Where it’s gone wrong for the Jaguars…

Jacksonville loves to throw the ball within 10 yards of the line of scrimmage. But to be fair, they don’t really have a strong-armed quarterback who can consistently deliver the ball down the seam and outside the numbers, so passing short seems like a safe way to protect the ball. But it hasn’t worked too well, has it?

The Jaguars are too predictable and haven’t done well at keeping opposing defenses on their feet, which is something they have struggled with for years…

Early in the season, it was easy for defenses to guess whether they were going to pass or run the ball based on whether Gardner Minshew was lined up under center or out in shotgun. You can’t expect to be successful if you are passing out of shotgun formation 80% of the time and not changing up your looks.

What do the Jaguars need to do?

Sitting as a bottom-five team in the league in points-per-game can’t feel good. To start, the Jaguars need to get creative with the passing game. Call more play-action, bootlegs, and RPO’s. Utilize pre-snap motion to your advantage. If you’re focused on passing short, call more hi-low routes and force the quarterback to make quick but simple second level reads on defenders.

One area I’d like to see the Jaguars improve is getting in the rhythm with perfectly timed throws that Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packer’s offense thrives off of. And on the other hand, If they draft a quarterback like Justin Fields, they could stack the playbook with plenty of option plays.

But if they expect a rookie quarterback to come and be successful right away, they will need to tailor the offense towards his needs.
