Analysis: What will Jacksonville Jaguars do with their top 10 free agents?
What will the Jacksonville Jaguars do with their tight ends?
The Jaguars’ tight end situation depends on how much they value the position and what they plan to do in the free agency period and the draft. Neither Tyler Eifert nor James O’Shaughnessy are playmakers. If the new regime wants a difference-maker at tight end, they will have to bring one in, which most likely means one or both of them will not be re-signed.
If the team’s next general manager wants to improve in other areas and is perfectly fine with what Eifert and O’Shaughnessy have shown, they will likely be back. It just all depends on the direction and identity this Jacksonville team wants to have at this position.
Most likely, only one of them will be back and one won’t. Eifert has the edge if you have to pick between the two. This season, he’s hauled in 30 receptions for 271 yards and two touchdowns while O’Shaughnessy has caught 24 passes for 228 yards and no scores. Eifert is more athletic, runs better routes, and is a decent-enough blocker. However, they need a playmaker at tight end, as a great one can change an offense.
