Wyatt Hubbert could bolster the Jacksonville Jaguars defensive line.

Kansas State Defensive end Wyatt Hubert has announced his decision to enter the 2021 NFL Draft. The Jacksonville Jaguars‘ defense is in need of an infusion of talent, so it would make sense for them to keep an eye on the Kansas native, as he could bring an element of pass rush to their defensive line.

In three years with the Wildcats, the 2019 First Team All-Big 12 amassed 72 solo tackles, 22 assists, 20 sacks, and three forced fumbles. Moreover, he earned a 90.7 Pro Football Focus pass-rush grade, and his 93 pressures since 2019 are the fourth-most in college since 2019. Hubbert isn’t as stout on the passing game, but he could definitely help the Jaguars upfront.

Why it makes sense for the Jacksonville Jaguars to add Wyatt Hubbert?

Just a couple of weeks ago, the Jaguars were dead last in sacks in the NFL. Although they have done a better job of getting to the quarterback in the last two games, they still need help upfront, as their patched-up defensive line lacks depth.

Rookie defensive end K’Lavon Chaisson has recently displayed flashes of playmaking prowess, Dawuane Smoot has been solid at the line of scrimmage and Josh Allen should be back in the lineup after sustaining a knee injury earlier this year. Nevertheless, this Jacksonville team needs to reinforce its defensive line. Even when Allen was on the field, they had a hard time getting to the quarterback and they need to add as much talent as they can in the draft and free agency.

Hubbert isn’t a high-end prospect, but he could carve a niche as a situational pass rusher in the NFL. He will likely get his name called in the middle rounds of the draft, and if the Jaguars selected him, they would do it because of his pass-rush skills.

The ‘Jags’ have a third-round pick picks and two in the fourth round in next year’s draft. If Hubert is still available when they’re on the clock, they should consider using one of those selections on him.
