Jacksonville Jaguars: LB Joseph Ossai declares for NFL Draft
Ossai is an intriguing prospect the Jacksonville Jaguar must consider.
Heading into the offseason, quarterback is the Jacksonville Jaguars‘ biggest roster need. However, it isn’t the only one and they have to replenish different position groups, with their linebacker corps being one of them. Texas product Joseph Ossai has declared for the draft and he’s a prospect the ‘Jags’ should keep an eye on.
Ossai announced his intention to opt-out of the remainder of the 2020 season and his senior season in a statement on the Longhorns’ official website. He says it was a dream of his to play for the Longhorns, but he’s ready to enter the next stage of his football career.
Joseph Ossai could bolster the Jacksonville Jaguars’ linebacker unit.
The Jaguars could certainly use Ossai’s production. In his three-year tenure with the Longhorns, he registered 99 total tackles, 66 assists, 11 sacks, five forced fumbles, three pass breakups, and two interceptions.
Although this Jacksonville team has other more pressing roster needs, such as defensive end or left tackle, they should consider using their second first-round pick, the second one they got when they traded cornerback Jalen Ramsey to the Las Vegas Rams in 2019, on Ossai.
Joe Schobert has solidified the middle of the Jaguars linebacker corp and Myles Jack has been a stud for a while. Nevertheless, they are missing another playmaker to round up the unit. They traded for Kamalei Correa early in the season in order to shake things up, but he hasn’t done anything of note since he joined the team in Week 6 and has missed the last two games with a hamstring injury.
The Jaguars have could opt to sign someone like Kyler Fackrell in free agency or target a linebacker in the middle of 2021’s draft. However, if Ossai is available when they’re on the clock with their second first-round pick, they should consider choosing him.
