4 best Jacksonville Jaguars running backs during David Caldwell era
The Jacksonville Jaguars didn’t draft many RBs during Caldwell’s tenure.
The Jacksonville Jaguars recently parted ways with general manager David Caldwell and this is a good time to look at his draft record when acquiring running backs. Throughout his eight-year tenure, Caldwell didn’t invest many picks at the position and drafted a total of four, five if you considered that Denard Robinson switched from wide receiver to running back.
All in all, the Jaguars used a first-round selection in 2017, and a second-round pick in 2015, a fifth-round pick in 2019, and a seventh-rounder in 2014. There isn’t a specific number of selections a front office should devote to draft a running back but four picks seem a bit low, considering the position was never a strength for this Jacksonville team.
Putting aside the number of selections, none of the running backs the Jaguars drafted during Caldwell’s tenure as a general manager ran for more than 3,000 yards, so the team didn’t really get much mileage out of the position either.
Making Caldwell’s track record at getting running backs look worse is the fact he didn’t even draft arguably the best one he’s acquired, James Robinson. These are the best four running backs the Jaguars had during the former general manager’s tenure with the team.
