The third time should be the charm for these Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Jacksonville Jaguars fired general manager David Caldwell after the team’s 27-25 loss to the Cleveland Browns in Week 13. They have likely started the process to search to fill the vacancy and should bring in his replacement in the upcoming weeks. The problem with that is that they haven’t been very good at hiring people for that position.

Since Shahid Khan bought the Jaguars in 2011, the team has had two general managers, Gene Smith and Caldwell. If they were good at their job, they would be with the team, and looking at their track record of acquiring talent, it’s wasn’t surprising to see both get the boot.

In Khan’s favor, he inherited Smith and Caldwell has been the only general manager he has hired in his tenure as an owner. He will have a chance to find someone who can get the Jaguars out of the NFL’s cellar.

It won’t’ be an easy task to hire the correct person and making the wrong choice can set the franchise back for years. There will definitely be more than just one qualified candidate, and there’s still time to gather data about all the prospects. One name that is trending is former Browns and Kansas City general manager John Dorsey, but is he the right person to lead the Jaguars’ front office?
