. . Byron Leftwich. 1. player. 48.

Why not bring back a Jacksonville Jaguars’ alumnus?

Byron Leftwich was the Jaguars’ first-round pick in the Player Selection Meeting in 2003. Although he showed promise early in his tenure, he would lose the starting quarterback job to David Garrard in 2006. He joined the Falcons the following season and went on to play for different teams until he retired in 2012.

Once his playing days were over, Leftwich joined Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians’ staff as a coaching intern in 2016. He would get promoted to quarterbacks coach in 2017 and was the ‘Cards’ offensive coordinator for a stretch in 2018.

When Arians took the Buccaneers head coaching job in 2019, he hired Leftwich as his offensive coordinator. In Leftwich’s first year in the job, Tampa Bay’s offense had the third-most points and this season they rank seventh.

The fact the team changed quarterback Jamies Winston for Tom Brady hasn’t seen to affect the team’s offensive output, and Leftwich has surely played a role in that. Moreover, he has gotten the most out of running back Ronald Jones II and has overseen the development of wide receivers Chris Goodwin and Scott Miller.

Leftwich has certainly benefited from having talented players at his disposal, but he has shown he has the coaching chops to work with them and help them reach their potential.
