What does this have to do with the 2021 Jacksonville Jaguars?

The Jaguars can’t afford to wait anymore to find a franchise quarterback. They need to start doing due diligence and gather as much information they can about the upcoming quarterback class, and while they will likely use 2021’s overall pick on a prospect to get a signal-caller, they shouldn’t discard the possibility of using of drafting another prospect such as left tackle Penei Sewell or edge defender Gregory Rousseau with that selection.

Justin Fields has had a terrific season with the Buckeyes but is too early to anoint him as the Jaguars’ quarterback of the future, and the same is true for pretty much any draft prospect. This Jacksonville team must look at every single way to tackle the selection meeting.

The second overall pick may be too high to take Kyle Trask, but if the ‘Jags’ like him more than Fields, Zach Wilson, or even North Dakota State’s Trey Lance, they could use the selection to target another player. After all, they have many rosters holes to fill and although the quarterback position is their most pressing need, it isn’t the only one.

Of course, if Fields is their man, or if Clemson quarterback Trevon Lawrence somehow falls on their lap, the Jaguars shouldn’t hesitate to pull the trigger. What they can’t do is getting locked into just one prospect. They must explore every single path they will have to turn the team around.
