The Jacksonville Jaguars should refrain from signings hot GM candidates.

The Atlanta Falcons fired Thomas Dimitroff a couple of months ago. The Sporting News 2008 NFL Executive of the Year will likely be a hot candidate among those teams in search of a general manager. However, it would be wise for the ‘Jags’ to pass him up. He took over the team in 2008 and quickly revamped the roster. That year, he drafted franchise quarterback Matt Ryan, offensive tackle Sam Baker and signed running back Michael Turner.

With Dimitroff at the helm, this team made the transition from the ‘Michael Vick’ era to a period of time in which the Falcons were a perennial contender.  However, a few years after bringing in a myriad of difference-makers, the team formerly known as the ‘Dirty Birds’ went through a period of roster attrition.

Dimitroff drafted All-Pro wide receiver and running back Jacquizz Rodgers in 2011 and took Devonta Freeman in 2014’s draft, but other than that, he didn’t acquire many contributors in recent season, which validated the Falcons’ decision to part ways with him in 2020.
