Mike Glennon will be the Jacksonville Jaguars starting QB in Wee 13.

The Jacksonville Jaguars got a solid performance from Mike Glennon against the Cleveland Browns in Week 12. That’s why it isn’t surprising to hear head coach Doug Marrone announce the veteran quarterback will be the team’s starting quarterback moving forward.

Marrone said in a sitdown with the local media that Glennon gives the team the best chance to win and mentioned he discussed the decision with offensive coordinator Jay Gruden and Ben McAdoo. The head coach also pointed out that the quarterback’s performance was factored in the decision.

Later in the conversation, Marrone said he wasn’t sure whether Glennon will keep the starting quarterback job for the remainder of the season, and believes the team could make a change depending on the production they get from the quarterback.

Against the Browns, Glennon made his first start of the 2020 season and was 20-of-35 for 235 yards and two touchdowns. Moreover, he didn’t turn the ball over, something rookie Jake Luton struggled with in the last three weeks.

The Jacksonville Jaguars don’t really have another choice.

Marrone says Glennon’s experience and his ability to protect the football give him an edge over Gardner Minshew II and Luton. Looking at their performances in 2020, the head coach is right. In seven games his season, Minshew threw five interceptions and lost three fumbles. Meanwhile, Luton threw six interceptions in three games.

The Jaguars offense currently ranks 28th in points scored and it’s unlikely there will be a significant improvement with Glennon at the helm. The same is true for the team’s standings. They are 1-11 and dead last in the AFC South. Nevertheless, Glennon showed Jacksonville’s offense operated more efficiently with him as the starting quarterback than it did with either Luton or Minshew.

The ‘Jags’ will take on the Minnesota Vikings in Week 13, if Glennon plays the way he did against the Browns, he will likely keep the starting job for the remainder of the year.
