Jacksonville Jaguars: LT Sam Cosmi declares for 2021 NFL Draft
The Jacksonville Jaguars could target Sam Cosmi in 2020’s draft.
Left tackle Cam Robinson is in the last year of the rookie contract he signed when the Jacksonville Jaguars used a second-round pick to draft him in 2017. So far, there haven’t been any indications the team is going to re-sign the left tackle, and if they decide to part ways with him, they could select a left tackle in 2021’s draft. If that’s the path they decide to take, Texans Longhorns left tackle Sam Cosmi could be their choice.
Last week, Anwar Richardson of Rivals.com reported Cosmi was expected to opt-out of the Longhorns’ last two games of the season, and later, the left tackle announced on social media his decision to forgo the remainder of his junior season and declare for the draft. He earned All-Big 12 honors and started 34 consecutive games in 2019.
Taking a left tackle in next year’s draft is an option for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Maybe former general manager David Caldwell knew the team would fire him so he refrained from re-signing any of the team’s players that are set to be free agents after the season ends. On the other hand, it’s fair to wonder if the team wants to bring Robinson back. After all, the Alabama product has been solid but not much else.
The ‘Jags’ currently hold the second overall pick in next year’s players’ selection process and although that may be too early to take Cosmi, they could draft him with their other first-round pick, the second of two they got from the Los Angeles Rams when they traded cornerback Jalen Ramsey in 20219.
This Jacksonville team could end up offering Cam Robinson a contract at any time. After all, they still have plenty of time to re-sign the left tackle, but the team may need to wait for the new front office to take over before making a decision. If they decide to part ways with him, Sam Cosmi should be at the top of their draft boards next year.
