Jacksonville Jaguars could be better off with Mike Glennon at helm

The Jacksonville Jaguars must make a decision about the QB position.

Veteran Mike Glennon will be the Jacksonville Jaguars‘ starting quarterback when the team plays the Cleveland Browns in Week 12. Although Gardner Minshew II will be ready to play soon, the organization should consider letting Glennon keep the starting job for the remainder of the season.

Glennon is the proverbial ‘journeyman’, going from one team to another while providing a veteran voice in their quarterback room. The North Carolina State standout was originally drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2013 and even though he had a solid rookie campaign, he hasn’t done much of notice in recent years.

In the last five seasons, Glennon has played for five different teams and completed 124 of 182 passes for 1,138 passes for seven touchdowns and five interceptions. That’s not the kind of production that will get any fanbase fired up. Nevertheless, giving the eight-year veteran the starting nod for the rest of the year may be the best course of action moving forward.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have nothing to lose at this point.

John Oehser and Brian Sexton recently co-wrote an article for the Jaguars official website, and they believe that giving Glennon the starting job beyond Week 12 could be the best team for the team. They point out Minshew II struggled early in the season and Jake Luton didn’t show enough in his three starts to stay on the field.

Oehser and Sexton also point out that Glennon will put other Jaguars players in a position to make plays, something Luton struggled to do the last two weeks. Many times, the wide receivers were in a position to make plays but the rookie quarterback couldn’t get the ball to them. The defense was also able to force a few turnovers, but the offense didn’t do much of note once they got the ball back.

The Jaguars won’t suddenly turn into an offensive powerhouse with Mike Glennon at quarterback. However, they should get better production out of the position with the veteran leading the team and if he does well against the Browns, the team’s brass should consider letting him hold the job the following weeks.
