Not everything is gloom and doom for this Jacksonville Jaguars team.

Watching the Jacksonville Jaguars play in 2020 has been a taxing experience at times. While they have been competitive at times, they have dropped nine consecutive games and are many players away from becoming a competent team.

Nevertheless, there are some bright spots on the Jaguars roster, and although they were overmatched against the Pittsburgh Steelers, there were some solid individual performances. In particular, their safety group played well.

Rookie Daniel Thomas made his second start of the year and made the most out of it by recording two pass breakups and intercepting a pass that halted the Steelers’ attempt to score one last time before halftime.

Thomas wasn’t the only safety that had a good performance against the Steelers though. Jarrod Wilson also played well and ended with six solo tackles, three assists, and one pass defensed. Moreover, he allowed eight yards on four targets and earned an 84.7 Pro Football Focus grade, the highest a Jaguars player got against the Steelers.

Jarrod Wilson has become a solid contributor for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Wilson originally joined the ‘Jags’ as an undrafted free agent in 2016. At that time, Johnathan Cyprien and Tashaun Gipson were the starting safeties, and although he only played on 2.7 percent of the team’s total snaps on defense in his rookie season and 5.02 in his second year, his role with the team would steadily grow.

In his third season, the Michigan standout would play 22 percent of the Jaguars’ total defensive snaps and in his fourth year in Jacksonville, he would seize the starting safety job and play every single defensive snap. His play on the field that year earned him a three-year $7.250 million contract.

Last season, he recorded 79 total tackles, four pass deflections, and one forced fumble. This season, he has 30 total tackles and two pass breakups.

Although Wilson isn’t a Pro Bowl safety, he’s been a solid contributor for the Jaguars’ offense. His PFF grade in Week 11 is a reminder of the impact he has on this Jacksonville team.
