How Jacksonville Jaguars reached 100th loss under Shahid Khan
Where do the Jacksonville Jaguars go from here?
No one wants or needs Khan to scout, draft, coach or develop players. That’s not his job. All he needs to do is find the right general manager and front office people who can bring in a good head coach, create a winning culture, hit more consistently at the top of the draft, and turn this thing around.
The scariest thing is that Khan has seemingly refused to make changes and doing so has sent the message to fans and media he isn’t terribly invested nor interested in this Jacksonville team. Following a mediocre 5-11 season in 2018, there was a win-now mandate from Khan. So, in 2019 following a 6-10 season Khan said…. the exact same thing as if 2018 was a distant memory and just kept on trucking.
If you have a job, any job in the world, and you fail on average around 60 percent of the time, it can be reasonably assumed you won’t have that job for very long. If you’re a waiter and you get six out of every ten orders wrong, you’d be fired on your second day. No question about it.
The Jaguars have not had that mindset and have not let their failing employees go for some ridiculous reason. The only thing that will generate hope heading into the 2021 season is if Khan finally cleans house and finds the right football people.
It won’t be easy though. It’s hard to find the right fit, but that’s what Khan signed up for and it’s about time he holds up on his ‘win-now’ mandates and finds people who can actually do so. And if he is not good enough or unknowledgeable about football to the point he doesn’t know who the right guy to bring in is, he can find the right person for the search.
Khan is too smart of a guy to not know to, at the very least, figure out and find someone who can make a general manager and head coaching search for him. Where do we go from here? It’s simple. You clean house first. That’s step one. And until that step is taken, the Jaguars owner and this franchise will be a laughing stock in the NFL.
