The Jacksonville Jaguars defense has indeed played better.

If you went into the game thinking that the Jacksonville Jaguars‘ defense was going to make a stand, you weren’t disappointed. The unit played mostly well in spite of not having Sidney Jones, who was ruled out for the game.

On the other hand, if you thought the ‘Jags’ were going to put plenty of points on the scoreboard with Jake Luton at the helm, you were let down, as the rookie quarterback struggled throughout the game and couldn’t get the offense going.

Surprisingly, the ‘Jags’ led 3-0 through the first quarter thanks to a 41-yard field goal kicker Chase McLaughlin connected in the team’s first drive. The fact the Steelers missed a field goal of their own definitely helped, but it’s worth nothing Jacksonville’s defense held their opponents scoreless in the first quarter.

Things would change in the second quarter and the Steelers would tie the game and later get ahead with a 31-yard touchdown pass quarterback Ben Roethlisberger threw to rookie wide receiver Chase Claypool. However, the Steelers weren’t done.

In the following drive, Steelers inside defender Tyson Alualu defensed a pass that safety Minkah Fitzpatrick ended up intercepting. Pittsburgh took advantage of the turnover and scored on a one-yard run by running back Bennie Snell Jr.

Down, 17-3, the Jaguars tried to come back, but Luton threw his second interception of the game, this time, it was safety Terell Edmunds the one that came with the ball. Having a chance to make it a three-score game, safety Daniel Thomas intercepted a pass Roethlisberger intended for wide wide receiver James Washington to end the first half.

Things went south for the Jacksonville Jaguars in the second half.

The Jaguars entered the second half of the game losing 17-3 but they kept the Steelers from scoring through the third quarter. Not everything went well for this Jacksonville team, as defensive end Josh Allen left the game with a knee injury.

Early in the fourth quarter, the Steelers would score another field goal. Luton would throw his third interception of the game, and Roethlisberger would field tight end Eric Ebron for a 20-yard touchdown pass in the following drive to make the score 27-3. Then, with the game out of reach, the Jaguars rookie quarterback threw his fourth interception of the game.

From there, the Steelers ran the clock for the remainder of the game the ‘Jags’ would lose the game 27-3. While their defense wasn’t flawless, the unit played well, but their offense failed them. Jake Luton was 16-of-37 for 151 yards and four interceptions.
