The Jacksonville Jaguars draft a pair of building blocks in the first round.

The Jacksonville Jaguars don’t have a franchise quarterback on their roster and the quicker they acquire one, the faster the team is going to start trending up. Gardner Minshew II and Jake Luton are a couple of tough, determined players, but they both have a limited ceiling.

Justin Fields is currently playing at a high level and has dominated his competition. He threw 59 touchdowns in 2019 and has already thrown 11 in just three games this season. Moreover, he’s got all the qualities other top-notch prospects have displayed in recent years. He will make it hard for this Jacksonville team to pass him up.

The ‘Jags’ drafted defensive end K’Lavon Chaisson with 2019’s 20th overall pick. In theory, the LSU standout would help get the team’s pass rush going, but in practice, the rookie has been a non-factor and has progressively received less playing time.

Chaisson still has time to turn things around, but the team can’t and shouldn’t wait for him. While the former Tigers defensive end figures things out, Jacksonville can draft Carlos Basham Jr. The Wake Forest standout is adept at both stopping the run and pressuring the quarterback. He still needs to work on his pass rush moves, but the potential is there.
