Jacksonville Jaguars might’ve found their starting cornerback duo
The Jacksonville Jaguars’ starting CB duo is playing solidly.
Throughout the 2020 season, the Jacksonville Jaguars‘ defense has struggled. They have allowed 30 points in six of their nine games and at near the bottom in most defensive categories. However, their cornerback group is slowly taking shape and could end up becoming a strength.
The ‘Jag’s had a hole at the cornerback position after trading Jalen Ramsey to the Los Angeles Rams in the middle of the 2019 season. Regardless of the reason behind the move, this Jacksonville team received a 2021 fourth-round pick and two first-round selections, one of them in 2020 and the other for 2021.
While the Jaguars used the selection they got from the Rams in defensive end K’Lavon Chaisson, they drafted cornerback C.J. Henderson with the ninth overall pick in 2020’s draft. That wasn’t the only meaningful addition the organization would make to bolster their cornerback room. Before the season started, they added Sidney Jones as a reclamation project.
Heading into the 2020 season, the Jaguars’ cornerback group consisted of Henderson, Luq Barcoo, D.J. Hayden, Tre Hurdon, Josiah Scott, Brandon Watson, and Chris Claybrooks. While some of the players in the unit had potential, this was an inexperienced group as a whole.
After 10 weeks of NFL football, it seems like the Jaguars have found their two starting cornerbacks. Henderson and Jones are coming off a strong performance against the Green Bay Packers and it’s unlikely it will be their last one of the season.
