The Jaguars could use some help on their offensive line.

Through seven games Jaguars quarterback Gardner Minshew has been sacked 22 times and is the sixth-most sacked quarterback through nine weeks. In Jake Luton‘s first career start, he was sacked only twice, which isn’t bad at all.

But the Jaguars haven’t found their star on the offensive line yet. They were hoping Jawaan Taylor was going to be that guy—which he still has a ways to go—but he’s given up the most sacks on the team with five through eight games.

The Jaguars want to find their Quenton Nelson and it just may be offensive tackle Penei Sewell from Oregon.

Penei Sewell would be an impact player for the Jaguars

Sewell made an immediate impact for the Oregon Ducks when he started as a true freshman in 2018. According to his biography on the Oregon Duck’s athletic site, Sewell “has allowed just one sack over 1,376 snaps the last two seasons.” In 2019, he earned first-team All-Pac 12 honors and was named a unanimous All-American.

Sewell opted out of his junior season this year in hopes of preparing for the 2021 NFL Draft.

Many scouts even regard Sewell as one of the best tackle prospects to enter the draft in recent years. He’s incredibly solid in both the run and pass block; has great size, power, and strong hands. Sometimes he can leave his hands too wide and allow the defense to take advantage but overall he’s an incredible prospect with huge potential, especially for a 20-year-old young star.

The Jaguars could use a player of such talent to drive their offensive line. They need extra protection for these young quarterbacks and Sewell could make an immediate impact. A major flaw within the Jaguars offense was not giving Gardner Minshew enough time to stand in the pocket and go through his progressions. Sewell would easily help change that culture.

Sewell will likely go in the first two picks of the draft. I wouldn’t expect him to drop out of the top five. The Jaguars are looking at a top-five pick currently and are in a good position to snag him early.
