Jacksonville Jaguars injuries: Josh Lambo will miss ‘significant time’
The Jacksonville Jaguars suffered a couple of important injuries in Week 9.
Even though the Jacksonville Jaguars played an exciting game against the Houston Texans in Week 9, they still lost for the seventh time in the 2020 season. To add insult to the injury, kicker Josh Lambo aggravated his gluteus medius muscle and is headed for Injured Reserve according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media.
Jaguars’ head coach Doug Marrone confirmed in a sitdown with the press that Lambo will miss ‘significant time and that they would ‘probably’ place him on the Injured Reserve list. He added that the team is working on the team’s kicker situation and that we would hear about it once they have news.
That isn’t the only injury the Jaguars suffered against the Texans though. Rookie wide receiver Laviska Shenault Jr. left the game with a hamstring injury and didn’t come back. Marrone said that the Colorado standout is doing better than the team expected and mentioned that they will see how he progresses during the week.
Also, rookie defensive tackle Doug Costin is in the concussion protocol after leaving the game. The Miami product was making his second start of the season and could be the team’s most meaningful loss. Even though he left the contest, he played more snaps than 2018’s first-round pick Taven Bryan.
All in all, Constin played in 45 percent of the team’s snaps on defense while Bryan only had 36 percent. Concussions are tricky and it’s uncertain when the former RedHawks defensive tackle can clear the protocol. It could be a week or a few.
How will Lambo’s and Shenault’s injuries affect the Jacksonville Jaguars?
The Jaguars offense didn’t miss a beat without Shenault. Although he’s a key cog in the passing game and will happily welcome him back once he’s ready to go, Chris Conley stepped up in his absence and played a complementary role. Against the Texans, wide receiver D.J. Chark led the team with seven receptions for 146 yards and one touchdown.
The team also has Keelan Cole at its disposal so it’s not as if their wide receiver corps is suddenly bare. Cole has hauled in 29 receptions for 380 yards and three touchdowns, he could have his role increased while Shenault is out. Other than possibly Costin, the team should be able to get around the injuries.
