DT Davon Hamilton has another dominant performance in Week 9.

Heading into Week 9, there were many Jacksonville Jaguars players we were looking forward to seeing take the field. We were interested in seeing how rookie quarterback Jake Luton was going to fare in his NFL debut. We also wanted to see how the defense was going to perform with linebacker Myles Jack and Jarrod Wilson back in the lineup.

Another player worth watching was defensive tackle DaVon Hamilton. Although he doesn’t get as much attention as fellow rookies James Robinson or Laviska Shenault, we wanted to find out if Hamilton’s Week 7 performance against the Los Angeles Chargers was going to carry over the ‘Jags’ Week 9 matchup against the Houston Texans.

Against the ‘Bolts’, Hamilton registered eight total tackles on 68 percent of the team’s snaps on defense. Moreover, he was Pro Football Focus’ highest-graded defensive rookie in Week 7. At the time, it was uncertain whether the Ohio State standout was showing progress or it was just a fluke performance. After another dominant game, the balance is tipping towards the former.

Davon Hamilton is becoming a staple of the Jacksonville Jaguars’ front four.

Hamilton was a bright spot in Week 9 and finished the game with four quarterback pressures, including one sack. Moreover, he recovered the fumble Myles Jack forced when he collided with Texans running back David Johnson.

Although the first-year defensive tackle didn’t have as many tackles as he did against the Chargers, he was still a key cog in the Jaguars front-four and received an 89.7 PFF grade, the highest one any Jaguars player got in Week 9.

While this year’s ninth overall pick, C.J. Henderson, and the 20th overall pick, defensive end K’Lavon Chaisson, are struggling to make an impact on the field, Hamilton is quickly becoming the best defensive player the ‘Jags’ drafted this year.

The Jaguars will likely undergo plenty of changes this upcoming offseason, they have to as they currently hold a 1-7 record. Some of their position groups may get a makeover in the free agency and the draft, but if Hamilton keeps playing the way he has the last two week, they won’t have to worry about his defensive tackle spot.
