3 players Jacksonville Jaguars could’ve drafted instead of CJ Henderson
The Jacksonville Jaguars could’ve secured a franchise offensive tackle.
If you are into offensive-line play, you might’ve stumbled upon tackle Tristan Wirfs, the player the Tampa Bay Buccaneers chose with 2020’s 13th overall selection. The Iowa State standout isn’t just one of the best rookie offensive tackles, he’s one of the best players at his position in the league. That’s how dominant he has been in his first eight games in the NFL.
Wirfs isn’t the only first-round tackle that has had success in his rookie year. The Cleveland Browns drafted Jedrick Wills Jr. one spot after C.J. Henderson and it seems like their found their left tackle of the future. The New York Jets should be pretty ecstatic about choosing Mekhi Becton with the 11th overall pick. Although not much has gone right for them this season and sit at 0-8, their young left tackle looks like a building block.
If there was a year to draft an offensive lineman, this was it. Wirfs, Wills, and Becton have solidly their respective units and have produced right out of the gate. If the Jaguars wanted a player that was going to have an immediate impact they could’ve gone with any of these tackles.
C.J. Henderson may end up becoming a fine cornerback but isn’t there yet. He’s been dealing with the growing pains rookies usually go through and although hindsight is 20/20, Wirfs would’ve immediately had an impact for the Jaguars.
