Jacksonville Jaguars HC Doug Marrone will trust Jake Luton into action.

After an X-Ray revealed that quarterback Gardner Minshew had a thumb injury, we didn’t know how the Jacksonville Jaguars would proceed and who would get the starting nod in their Week 9 matchup against the Houston Texans. After watching his latest sitdown with the press, we now have a clear idea.

In the presser, Marrone said rookie quarterback Jake Luton will get the starting nod against the Texans. He first said that he would give most reps this week as he had already seen enough from veteran Mike Glennon. That in itself doesn’t mean much and there are different ways to interpret it.

On one hand, Marrone could’ve meant that Glennon doesn’t need as much practice due to his veteran status and could get the starting nod. Another interpretation is that he wants to see what Luton brings to the table before making the decision.

Fortunately, Marrone left no doubt and was clearer later in the press conference. When asked about whether he wanted to see Luton practice and later make a decision about him, the head coach said he wanted to give the rookie the reps because he is going to start in Week 9.

We learned more about Jacksonville Jaguars QB Gardner Minshew’s injury.

Even though most of the presser focused on Luton getting the starting nod against the Texans, Marrone also touched on Gardner Minshew’s injury. The coach said he was aware Minshew had a thumb issue after their Week 8 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers. However, it wasn’t until Tuesday when they learned of the severity of the injury.

Marrone said that talked to Minshew and told him he wanted to see him at 100 percent. He also mentioned that he wouldn’t face any repercussions for not reporting the issue, but encouraged him to let the team know when he gets injured. The head coach later added that he would never question the quarterback’s toughness.

With Minshew out, it good to see the Jaguars have a plan and will go with Luton at quarterback. While we don’t know how he will perform, we know the coaching staff is making sure he’s ready to take on the Texans.
