The Jacksonville Jaguars QB situation gets clearer ahead of Week 9.

After learning that Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Gardner Minshew II has multiple fractures and a strained ligament in his right thumb, we have just learned how the team is going to proceed with the situation.

We now know that Minshew is expected to be inactive in the Jaguars Week 8 matchup against the Houston Texans according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media. This one is a no brainer and the right decision. Looking back, the injury could have been a cause for the sophomore quarterback’s ineffectiveness in previous games.

There’s no point in rushing Minshew in his recovery and he could actually aggravate the injury if he keeps playing in spite of it. If he had injured his left hand, this would be a different deal. Nevertheless, his right hand it was, and the ‘Jags’ had better play this one safe.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have a decision to make at the quarterback position.

Rapoport added that the Jaguars will let veteran quarterback Mike Glennon and rookie Jake Luton partake in a midseason quarterback battle to see who would get the starting nod against the Texans. The report says Minshew is ‘expected’ so he could have a slight change to play. However, it wouldn’t be a smart decision. That’s why it makes sense to rule him out already and see what Glennon and Luton bring to the table.

Glennon likely has the upper hand as he’s the one with the most experience. However, Luton had a good training camp and the ‘Jags’ could roll the dice on the Oregon State product. The team’s brass already knows what Glennon is capable of doing as has produced six years worth of tape.

On the other hand, Luton is an unknown and could provide a spark to the Jaguars offense. He wouldn’t have to lit the scoreboard. He only needs to give the Jaguars a chance to win while Minshew is out. The Jaguars wide receiver corps, an effective running game, and an adequate offensive line help him do so.

The Texans hold a 1-6 record and are currently enjoying their Bye Week. Before that, they lost their Week 7 game against the Green Bay Packers. The ‘Jags’ have a good chance to win their second game of the year against them. Hence, it’s crucial they choose the quarterback that gives them the best odds of winning.
