Dede Westbrook

I’m one of those guys who love Dede Westbrook and thinks he could be another version of Keenan McCardell if he is used right in the Jacksonville Jaguars system.

It’s hard to believe after injuries hurt him in the second half of 2019, he still caught 66 passes – the same number as he led the team in 2019. There is a chance eve with DJ Chark as the team’s top wide receiver, Chark could still grab 70 passes.

And there is a chance with the team’s numbers at the wide receiver position, Westbrook could fall as far as the fourth option in the passing game.

Westbrook is a speedster and is tough as nails, but he is also thin and the injuries from last season may draw a red flag from the coaching staff. Also, Chark, Chris Conley, Shenault, and Keelan Cole are all bigger and potentially more durable.

Another factor in the decision of who plays where is Westbrook, Conley, and Cole are all playing on a one-year deal. Does that provide enough incentive to bust down the doors in camp and work toward a deal to stay in Jacksonville beyond this season?

I think when it comes down to numbers, Conley has a shot to win the second wide receiver spot and Shenault will see plenty of action in various passing schemes.

By virtue, Westbrook – and Cole – might be the odd men out.
