Jacksonville Jaguars: 3 positions still in need of upgrades
By David Levin
Which positions on the Jacksonville Jaguars current roster still need an upgrade before the start of the 2020 season?
It’s a continuing mantra all of us have heard from members of the Jacksonville Jaguars organization this offseason.
They have plenty of work to do.
Not just the back-breaking stuff, like installing a new offense and defense. It’s the attention to details that have been forgotten the past two seasons. It’s the need to get better at all facets of the game. It’s the ability to put the 2017 season behind this franchise as if it did not exist because the lackluster performance of the past 24 months makes that team look like a façade.
This Jaguars roster is younger, faster, and more scrutinized than any in the Doug Marrone and David Caldwell era. It will be the one that determines their fate past this season. There is hope, but honestly, it is slim at best.
For the team that worked hard this offseason to add depth and a few starters in free agency and then loaded up on talent – mainly on defense – in the NFL Draft, could this group shock the world. They could make us all forget about the lack of support the Jaguars are receiving from a national audience?
I certainly hope so. Oops! There I go again.
There are areas of this roster that still concern me. I left off the quarterback position because l want to see if Gardner Minshew can do what many think he can’t – lead this team to a successful season. We don’t know what that success is yet, but more wins in 2020 and better play on offense have to be on the list. But he will need help, no doubt.
If the Jacksonville Jaguars are to make a move up the AFC South food chain, these three positions will still need help to get there. There is no list of importance other than the team cannot improve on six wins if they are not identified and fixed prior to the start of the 2020 season.
