Daryl Smith, Linebacker

One of the biggest mistakes the Jaguars’ front office made over the years was to get rid of Daryl Smith. The linebacker just made plays.

Smith was a second-round pick out of Georgia Tech in 2004 and quickly became a mainstay on the team’s defense. He also became one of the more underrated players to ever put on a Jacksonville Jaguars uniform. While players like Marcus Stroud, John Henderson, and Donovan Darius made headlines for their play on the field, Smith became a lunch pale guy, coming to work every day and did his job.

The Jaguars added Joe Schobert this offseason, which should help stabilize a unit that has been shaky since the retirement of Paul Posluszny and Telvin Smith. At 6-foot-2 and 250 pounds, he packed a wallop with each tackle and was solid against the run as well as in pass coverage.
