Will the players the Jacksonville Jaguars drafted over this past weekend have an impact on the team and veterans who are fighting to remain on the roster?

Who really thought Jacksonville Jaguars general manager David Caldwell would use all of his 12 draft picks this weekend? Better yet, who thought the Jaguars would stay where they were and not make a single trade over the 72 hours of the Draft?

It was a strange course of events, but the Jaguars came out of the selection process with more defensive puzzle pieces and a few on the offensive side of the ball.

Now comes the part where these players come to camp, fit into the system, and push veterans for playing time.

Head coach Doug Marrone told the media couple of years ago he wanted to see rookies and youngsters fight to push veterans off the roster because it creates competition and it shows the roster from a depth standpoint, is pretty good.

You can’t get much younger than the Jacksonville Jaguars are at the moment. And the defense especially may need to learn to walk before it can run. It just means the veterans who are left must lead by example.

Things should get interesting in the coming weeks as the front office and coaching staff has an opportunity to see their prized draft picks live for the first time. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, things across the NFL have been run a bit differently.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are in the same situation as everyone else.

With the new players comes competition. And these four players may have a harder time getting on the field in 2020 because of it.
