The Jaguars restructure A.J. Bouye

There is no reason the Jaguars should let veteran cornerback A.J. Bouye walk out of TIAA Bank Field unless the two sides cannot work out a renegotiated contract.

"“He still has a lot of football left in him and another player that we really like here as a person and as a guy,” Caldwell said when he met with the media on Tuesday at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis. “Obviously, you all know the salary restrictions and all that stuff. Realistically, it is not as bad when you put him in line with the rest of the corners in the league.”"

Bouye is scheduled to make $13 million this coming season. Ironically, the Jaguars would be paying Jalen Ramsey $13.7 in 2020 had he remained on the roster. The team could not keep both players at that salary, so a discussion to renegotiate would have happened no matter what the situation was.

With a secondary that is still young and the potential to get younger in the NFL Draft, Jacksonville needs a veteran presence on the field. Bouye must also revert back to his 2017 self to show he is still once of the best shutdown corners in the NFL.
