The Jacksonville Jaguars have announced they have re-signed offensive lineman Tyler Shatley to a deal after he became a free agent earlier this month.

Per Jaguars.comTyler Shatley, a sixth-year veteran guard/center who has spent all five of his NFL seasons with the Jaguars, re-signed with the team Friday morning. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

This means the team added another piece to their offensive line this offseason. The team re-signed right guard A.J. Cann and then signed tackle Cedric Ogbuehi to a free agent deal. Four of the five starters from the first week of the 2018 NFL season are back with the team. The only player who will not be under contract is Jermey Parnell, who was released prior to the start of free agency.

"“Shatley, who originally signed with the Jaguars as a collegiate free agent shortly following the 2014 NFL Draft, has started 15 of 62 games in five NFL seasons,” John Oehser wrote. “He has been the Jaguars’ swing interior lineman the past four seasons, and has been active for all 16 regular-season games each of the past three seasons.”"

The move makes sense because Shatley has had time in the trenches playing multiple positions including center, where he finished the season replacing the injured Brandon Linder for the final seven games for the organization. The team now has nine offensive linemen who are on the active roster. There is a possibility the Jaguars could seek more depth or a starter on the right side of the line in the NFL Draft.

Per a story I wrote here on Black and Teal, the offensive line remains the one position national media members believe the team will address in the first round of the NFL Draft. The offensive line is considered an area of great depth in this year’s draft.

Florida’s Jawaan Taylor seems to be the frontrunner to hear his name called when the team makes its pick at No. 7.

"“After their disastrous 2018, the Jaguars added a new quarterback in Nick Foles, and now they add a ton of attitude with a road-grading right tackle who can protect the QB and open holes in the running game,” NFL Media draft analyst Lance Zierlein wrote of Taylor."

Next. Tackle remains the pick of choice for the Jaguars. dark

The team could also address other needs with their first pick, like a tight end or wide receiver. Iowa’s T.J. Hockenson or Noah Fant could be a choice in Round 1 or 2. Also, Ole Miss pass catcher D.K. Metcalf could be available. At 6-foot-3 and 230 pounds, he is a big and imposing player who is physically imposing.
