Jaguars Free Agency News: Team signs TE Geoff Swaim
By David Levin
The Jacksonville Jaguars added another target for new quarterback Nick Foles when the team announced it has signed tight end Geoff Swaim on Friday.
Jaguars general manager David Caldwell told the media on Thursday that the tight end position is one the team will look to add depth to, potentially in free agency or the NFL Draft. On Friday, it was announced former Dallas Cowboys tight end Geoff Swaim had signed with the franchise.
Per Jaguars.com, Swaim, a tight end who played his first four NFL seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, signed with the organization as an unrestricted free agent Friday morning. He became the Jaguars’ second free-agent signing of 2019, following quarterback Nick Foles signing Thursday.
The only other tight ends on the Jaguars current roster is Ben Koyack and Pharoah McKever. The Jaguars may also look at either T.J. Hockenson or Noah Fant, both of Iowa in the NFL Draft next month. The class of tight end prospects in this year’s draft is deep, according to multiple sites and experts.

"“I’m very excited,” Swaim said Friday morning. “Just evaluating options in free agency … being able to play with Nick and seeing the kind of style he plays … that was big for me to make my decision.”"
Having a new quarterback for this organization immediately becomes a big selling point when trying to negotiate with potential free agents.
Swaim had his best season as a pro in 2018, hauling in 26 catches for 242 yards and a touchdown. In the offensive game plan implemented by new offensive coordinator John DiFilippo, the tight end is a major part of the passing attack.
DiFilippo and Foles had Zach Ertz in Philadelphia when the two were together in 2017. In Minnesota last season, Kyle Rudolph was used often with Kirk Cousins under center.
Swaim (6-feet-4, 260 pounds), originally a seventh-round selection by the Cowboys in the 2015 NFL Draft, started 18 of 37 games for Dallas.
The team did not pick up the option on tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins prior to free agency. The team did not try to re-sign either Blake Bell or James O’Shaugnessy who are now free agents and can negotiate with any team in the NFL.
