Jaguars trade up to grab Dwayne Haskins in latest CBS Sports mock draft
By David Levin
In the most recent NFL Mock Draft by CBS Sports, the Jacksonville Jaguars trade picks with the Oakland Raiders to grab quarterback Dwayne Haskins.
I suspect the Jacksonville Jaguars are going to be fairly busy on the first night of the NFL Draft if they do not get the veteran signal caller they want in free agency. In the most recent Mock Draft by R.J. White of CBS Sports, the Jaguars trade Leonard Fournette and the No. 7 pick to the Oakland Raiders for the fourth pick in the first round.

"“If Tom Coughlin decides to move on from Leonard Fournette, what better use of the talented but oft-troubling running back than in a trade up for a franchise quarterback? If the Jags miss out on Nick Foles, Haskins is probably going to be the best option available this offseason,” White writes.“He doesn’t bring Blake Bortles’ ability to pick up yards with his legs, but he’ll be far superior as a passer and give the Jaguars a shot at returning to the postseason in 2019.”"
The Jaguars could be one of several teams in the top 15 picks looking to add a rookie passer. The New York Giants, Denver Broncos, Bengals, Redskins and Dolphins could all be on the hunt.
With the addition of Heisman Trophy winner Kyler Murray to the class, as he announced on Monday his intention to give up baseball to concentrate on an NFL career, the draft class got better at the quarterback position, but may not be as solid as the 2018 class where four of them were taken in the first 10 picks.
While the need to add more dependability at the position is a must this offseason, Jacksonville has other needs to fill in free agency and the draft. Playmakers are paramount. More depth on the offensive line, especially at right guard and right tackle is essential. A tight end may also be on the team’s wish list.
Don’t count out the possibility of the Jaguars looking to shore up the defense at linebacker and safety. And if the team does trade Fournette for Haskins, does it mean they will seek another running back in the draft or sign one or two in free agency?
Jacksonville will need to add more depth as T.J. Yeldon and Corey Grant are free agents. If Fournette leaves, it’s a good bet they keep Carlos Hyde on the roster to become the lead back.
This year’s draft is defense heavy with pass rushers the main focus of the top prospects for April. The Jaguars are unlikely to draft a rush end or defensive tackle in the first round with so many needs on the offensive side of the ball.
Jacksonville must still decide what it wants to do with Bortles and his contract that counts $16.5 million in dead cap space if they release him.
