Jaguars face the Texans: Predicting the winner on Sunday
By David Levin
As the Jacksonville Jaguars travel to Houston to face the Texans in the final game of the 2018 NFL season, here are a few predictions of who will win the game on Sunday.
You could sense head coach Doug Marrone’s disappointment not only in the Jacksonville Jaguars record this season, but also the way he has coached and how the team has dealt with adversity all year.
As the season comes to an end on Sunday at Houston, it will be remembered as one of the most disappointing ones in Jaguars history. So full of promise to begin with and such heartbreak throughout the last 12 games.
"When asked on Friday about how the team has performed this season with so many struggles, Marrone was succinct when he replied, “My job is to win games and I haven’t done a good enough job. When you look at the other stuff, I don’t want to be judged [on effort].”More from Jacksonville Jaguars NewsJacksonville Jaguars should welcome Derrick Henry into the kingdomJaguars Rumors: Trent Baalke seems to be getting respect nowJaguars News: This division rival might be making a big moveFormer Jacksonville Jaguars S Johnathan Cyprien: “New Profession, Same Standards”Jacksonville Jaguars TE Evan Engram officially gets the franchise tag: 3 takeaways“That’s like saying, ‘You can’t win games, but give this a try.’ There’s another thing that I’ve always said, ‘Don’t confuse effort with results.’ You know? That’s what we haven’t done.”"
Marrone’s fate for next season has not been determined, although there have been reports from Ian Rapoport that he will return in 2019. Whether his coaching staff remains the same is not yet known, or whether owner Shad Khan will retain general manager David Caldwell for the future.
Right now, there are too many “ifs” to concentrate on with one more game left to play. As Marrone has said many times, he is only focused on playing football this week, so that is what we here at Black and Teal are going to do as well.
The Jaguars have a chance to disrupt the Texans playoff seeding and their position for a possible first-round bye. Our staff writers predict how the game will play out on Sunday.
Kathy Clark – The Jaguars play the Houston Texans this week. I would love to see them win just because winning is more fun.
However, it could be best to lose to secure a better draft choice. The Texans are playing for a possible first-round bye in the playoffs. The Jaguars are playing because they have to. Texans 24 Jaguars 13
David Levin – The Jaguars have a chance if they play like they have nothing to lose. This is of course against a tough Houston defense led by J.J. Watt and another mobile quarterback in Deshaun Watson.
The Jalen Ramsey–DeAndre Hopkins matchup is worth the price of admission. The Jaguars running game will once again be a disappointment. If this is a low-scoring game, Jacksonville could come out a winner.
Unfortunately, I do not see that happening. In the end, what was supposed to be a Super Bowl run ends with a top 10 draft pick and plenty of questions to answer. Houston 27 Jacksonville 17.
Lorenzino Estrada – The Jaguars are one game away from fulling focusing toward the offseason. While the game might not feel important with a 5-10 record, this game has major draft implications.
The Jaguars have opted to sit A.J. Bouye and Leonard Fournette is doubtful. This could be a sign of the Jaguars knowing the effects of their draft stock with the win. Texans win, 27-13.
