Can the Jacksonville Jaguars finally score on offense?
By David Levin
Now that their best player, Leonard Fournette, is back will the Jacksonville Jaguars finally rediscover their offense with six weeks left in the season?
There have been a lot of reasons volleyed about as to the reason why the Jacksonville Jaguars haven’t been able to put points on the scoreboard this season. While plenty of fingers have been pointed locally and nationally, not many are willing to step forward and take the blame for such a weak showing.
Offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett met with the media on Tuesday and made it clear it falls on him to jump start this side of the ball. The team needs to find more ways to score of offense.
"“My job is to always put the guys in the best position possible,” the Jaguars’ offensive coordinator said."
The Jaguars are averaging just 17.6 points a contest (29th in the NFL) and 103 yards rushing per game. those numbers are significantly lower than last season when this team was in the top 10 in scoring and first in the league in rushing yards per game. Getting Leonard Fournette back the past two games has proven this team can move the football, but scoring is still an issue.

Quarterback Blake Bortles remains at the top of the list of things the fans and the national media would like to see replaced in Jacksonville next season. He and Hackett have been joined at the hip since he became the offensive coordinator under Doug Marrone’s watch with two games remaining in the 2016 season. Last year was an improvement in both Bortles and the offense. This season has been a regression of the worst kind.
"“I think Blake has a lot of things he needs to improve on; he knows that,” Hackett said. “He needs to be able take his shots when he can. He needs to keep protecting the ball. That’s always a fine line with a quarterback. You don’t want to turn the ball over a bunch, but you still want to be aggressive and take your shots. That’s something he has to continue developing.”"
The Jaguars move on to face Buffalo after a dismal display against the Pittsburgh Steelers where Bortles looked less than average and the running game hit a wall in the fourth quarter. The defense played well enough to win the game, but only got 16 points from their teammates on Sunday.
Something has to happen or a stagnant offense could mean the Jaguars could be in line for double digit losses this season.
Despite dominating the time of possession and intercepting Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger three times, the Jaguars offense managed 243 yards for the game.
