Jaguars Sign Free Agent Tackle Ereck Flowers on Friday
By David Levin
The Jacksonville Jaguars quest to strengthen the offensive line and the left tackle position was aided when the team announced the signing of tackle Ereck Flowers on Friday. Flowers was recently released by the New York Giants.
Former New York Giants tackle Ereck Flowers may not get to see the field on Sunday when the Jacksonville Jaguars face the Dallas Cowboys, but the newly signed free agent does figure to be in the lineup up as soon as next week.
The Jaguars made the announcement they had signed the former 2015 first round draft pick to help sure up the left side of the line that has been decimated by injuries. Both Cam Robinson and Josh Wells have filled the spot before suffering injuries. Jacksonville will start Josh Walker next to guard Andrew Norwell in Dallas and then go from there.
Wells was placed on the team’s reserve/injured list. Robinson was lost for the season after suffering an ACL injury against the New England Patriots. Wells can return to the team in eight weeks.

Flowers has a connection to Jacksonville as he was the last first-round draft pick of the Tom Coughlin era with the Giants. He was maligned this season for poor play at right tackle. The new environment in North Florida could help revive his career.
Per a press release issued by the Jaguars public relations department, the former University of Miami star appeared in 51 games (48 starts) with the Giants from 2015-18, starting his first 46 career games at left tackle. He also played with current Jaguars center Brandon Linder at Miami. His versatility will aid the Jaguars offensive line, a unit that has been banged up most of this early season.
The move to bring in the big tackle (6-foot-6, 325 pounds) is just one of a series of moves the team has made this week to add to its roster due to injuries.
This move was not the only one the Jaguars made to their roster on Friday. Early in the day, it was announced that long snapper Carson Tinker was placed on the injured reserve and the team re-signed Matt Overton to the 53-man roster. Overton played for the Jaguars last season when Tinker was placed on injured reserve prior to the season with a knee injury.
