Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Los Angeles Rams: Three keys for a victory in week 6
By Billy Long
Contain Aaron Donald
Whew….this one is going to be a challenge.
Aaron Donald is as disruptive as they come, and is the best interior defensive lineman in the league. Asking the Jaguars offensive to completely neutralize Donald would be asking too much, but they have to find a way to limit the impact he has on the game Sunday.
Jacksonville wants to run the football, and that will not happen effectively if Donald has his way. The Jaguars offensive line has exceeded expectations at this point of the season, but this is the biggest test they have faced thus far. The Jaguars must find a successful formula to keep Donald in check, which may include double-teaming him.
Suffocating a running game isn’t the only thing Aaron Donald does, as Donald also feasts on getting after the quarterback. If Jacksonville can’t prevent Donald from stuffing the rushing attack, the Jaguars are going to have to turn to throwing the football. If the running game is already stymied and Donald can tee off on Blake Bortles, the Jaguars are going to have a tough time finding offense on Sunday.
The Jaguars want Leonard Fournette and the running game to have another huge day. Knowing where Aaron Donald is at all times will be imperative to accomplishing that feat.
