The Jacksonville Jaguars were thought to be a pathetic team, even a joke, by most of the talking heads.  They didn’t look great in the pre season.  Also, they had a quarterback problem and an offensive line problem.  The joke was on us because they played a great game.

The Jacksonville Jaguars won their season opener with a smothering defense and a solid offense. To start, the  defense walked  on the field in the first quarter and looked energetic and full of life. This continued the entire game. Equally important, the offense had good moments as well.  Above all, the much maligned offensive line played a great game.  It was a performance almost nobody predicted. The joke of the NFL had the last laugh against the Houston team today.

THE DEFENSE

The defense came out of the first huddle and looked aggressive and enthusiastic.  They played at a high level the entire game.  The defense produced four turnovers for starters.  The D line sacked the quarterbacks 10 times.  Yes, you read these last two sentences correctly.  The D line harassed Tom Savage right out of the game.  They continued this harassment against DeShawn Watson as well.  Everyone  played  great but a few were special.  Calais Campbell had four sacks. Dante Fowler brought amazing energy to the game.  Jalen Ramsey more than lived up to his preseason hype.

THE OFFENSE

Many fans and sportswriters had nightmares about the offense after a less than stellar preseason. First there was the quarterback controversy.  Next there was the horrible play of the offensive line. Amazingly, the O line played great.  They looked like a veteran unit.  The line kept the penalties to a minimum and they allowed NO SACKS.  Blake Bortles had a solid 11/21 for 125 yards and NO INTERCEPTIONS.  Leonard Fournette rushed for 100 yards and Chris Ivory had a good game as well.

COACHING

The defense attacked. The offensive coordinator called several creative plays.   Many times in 2016 it seemed as though we were always on the defense and never on the offense. It was exciting to be in control of the game.

SPECIAL TEAMS

The special teams were  not overly special.  For starters, there were some short punts and Jason Meyers missed an extra point and two field goals.  However, he did well with his kick offs and there were no run backs.  Punt coverage was decent as well.

ITS GREAT TO BE A JAGUAR FAN TODAY

Lets sit back and savor this marvelous game.  The players played well and the coaches coached well. There were some future all stars on the field today.  Go Jags!
