5 greatest Jacksonville Jaguars running backs of all-time
By Luke Sims
4) Stacey Mack (1999-2002)
Another brief Jacksonville Jaguars player, Stacey Mack came to the Jags as a fullback but left as a running back. An impressive 2001 season that saw him rush for 877 yards and nine touchdowns can be looked back on with fondness by fans of the team.
Mack’s resilience in that 2001 season was a defining moment for him as a player. With Fred Taylor sidelined for 14 games during the season due to injury, someone had to step up. Mack managed to do so and looked every bit like an NFL-caliber running back. He managed 4.1 yards per carry and 54.8 yards per game in 11 starts.
Those kinds of numbers aren’t going to land him a spot in the Pride of the Jaguars but they were enough to at least provide some relief in the wake of Taylor’s inability to get on the field.
Looking forward with Yeldon’s promise and Fournette’s raw ability, it is unlikely that Mack will stay on this list of Jaguars all-time great running backs. His presence here is more as a placeholder for the future generations. After just 22 seasons in the books, the Jags are still young and a player with 1498 yards and 19 touchdowns can land on a list like this. If one excellent season comes out of Fournette in 2017, it would be easy to see this being Mack’s last mention among the greatest running backs in the team’s history.
