Do the Jaguars have Enough Depth at Cornerback?
After a productive offseason did the Jacksonville Jaguars bring in enough talent at the cornerback position?
With potential starters as Jalen Ramsey, A.J Bouye and Aaron Colvin the starting line is solid. However who are the men holding it down behind the starters?
Entering his second season with the Jags, Johnson flashed at times in a reserve role last season. Johnson made a critical play on a fourth down in the Indianapolis colts game last season to help secure the win. However Johnson only secured nine tackles and .5 of a sack last season. Moving forward Johnson will need to develop to contribute at the cornerback position. His strength as a special teams player will help the Jags this season. Overall Johnson will help provide depth for the cornerback position.
Jalen Myrick
Is a new face on the roster. He was taken in the seventh round of the NFL draft. Myrick is noted for his blazing speed and posted a 4.28 forty yard dash. His speed will help give him an advantage and could also contribute as a special teams player. Myrick is in a situation where he can learn from Ramsey and Bouye. As the offseason progresses Myricks development could be a big asset to the team.
Others players currently on the team that will battling for a roster spot are Tracy Howard, Ezra Robinson, and Doran Grant. While the chances of making the roster are slim the Jaguars will likely keep one of these players on the roster to ensure the depth at the position. These players will help make sure the Jags have enough talent at the defensive back position.
Overall the Jags have had a productive offseason. The addition of these cornerbacks from Josh Johnson to Jalen Myrick will help make sure the cornerback position has talent and depth behind the starters. These players mentioned above will look to provide their talent to create depth at an important defensive position.
