The new offensive scheme of the Jacksonville Jaguars will relieve the pressure off Blake Bortles.

The Jacksonville Jaguars offense will be better because of the Doug Marrone system. His scheme will relieve the pressure on Blake Bortles. In fact, Bortles should thrive in 2017.

In 2013, Marrone had three quarterbacks in Buffalo. E.J. Manuel started ten games while battling injuries. Buffalo finished at 6-10 and out of the playoffs.

Kyle Orton became the Buffalo quarterback in 2014. He threw for 3018 yards and eighteen touchdowns. Orton started twelve games to lead Buffalo to a 9-7 record, the best team record since 2004.

Expect the Jaguars to implement a power running game with Leonard Fournette. Fullbacks Tommy Bohanon and Marquez Williams will help in pass protection either as blockers or dump off receivers. Most of all, reinstalling the fullback position will ignite the Jaguars running game.

The vertical passing game will benefit from the new rushing attack. Opponents will be forced into man coverage due to the emphasis of a pounding run game.  Allen Robinson, Allen Hurns and Marqise Lee will run into deep open windows as a result. Tight ends will have space to run underneath routes.

How Blake Bortles Will Thrive In The New Offensive Scheme

First, Cam Robinson will anchor Bortles’ blind side. For all the bad decisions that Bortles has made, a porous offensive line is at least partly to blame. Currently, the Jaguars have fifteen offensive linemen on their roster. Jacksonville can find five to adequately protect the quarterback.

Next, having a fullback will help stop opposing edge rushers in passing situations. Either fullback has the size to pick up blitzing linebackers. Ultimately, they give Bortles maximum pass protection.

Finally, the offense becomes highly dynamic in the Air Coryell system of Marrone. Predictability in the play calling, has hurt the Jaguars offense the past few years. Now, the offense has more personnel to mix into different groupings and formations. 2017 will be the debut of a better Blake Bortles.
