Denard Robinson found asleep in car after single-car crash
By Daniel Lago
The Jacksonville Jaguars would rather not be in the news during this time of year, but they have a curious headline now involving running back Denard Robinson.
With nothing going on in the NFL until training camp starts, this is the only spot on the calendar teams would rather go completely unnoticed. So far the Jaguars have only had a yet-to-be settled incident with linebacker Dan Skuta, but they have another player with some explaining to do in running back Denard Robinson.

A report came out on Tuesday detailing how a police officer found Robinson asleep at the wheel
with his car partially submerged in a retention pond
:
"Robinson, 25, was behind the wheel of a Chevy Impala submerged in water on the driver’s side in a retention pond on the south side of the eastbound lane of Beach Boulevard near Southside Boulevard, according to a Florida Traffic Crash Report filed by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office."
An officer saw the car actually go off the road and went to check on the car, eventually finding Robinson and a female passenger asleep:
"An officer came knocked on the passenger’s side window and “the driver (Denard Robinson) opened his eyes and then went back to sleep,” the report detailed. The female passenger then “woke up and rolled down the window and said ‘what’s up.'” She tried to roll the window back up, but the officer was able to unlock the door and start helping Robinson and the female exit the vehicle.“The driver was passed out during this whole process. I was able to wake the driver but had to turn the vehicle off and remove his seatbelt. The driver thought he was on a road and did not want to exit the vehicle,” the report said."
The officer determined Robinson wasn’t impaired so no charges were filed.
"The report stated that an officer determined that Robinson was not impaired: “Ofc. M.T. Borgert ID#6520 was on scene to screen the drive for impairment. Ofc. Borgert felt the driver was not impaired and should not be charged with DUI. No citations were issued.”"
It’s a very odd situation, but it appears Robinson is only guilty of being entirely too tired and trying to drive. He posted a statement on Twitter Tuesday evening.
Robinson is fine and should be ready to fight for a roster spot in training camp.
