Jacksonville Jaguars 2013 Draft Class the worst of the David Caldwell era
By Daniel Lago
The Jacksonville Jaguars recent haul in the 2016 NFL Draft might be one of the best in franchise history, a good sign considering the disappointment of the 2013 class.
The Jacksonville Jaguars were the worst team in the NFL in the 2012 season. Former general manager Gene Smith had just completed arguably the most ineffective stretch of running a franchise ever and the team was bereft of talent. The case could be made there were no above average players on the roster heading into 2013.
With all that taken into account, it was reasonable to have plenty of patience with new general manager David Caldwell. The roster needed a complete overhaul and Caldwell had to start his restoration with one of the weakest draft classes in recent memory.

So far, it appears the entire 2013 draft class is a wash. Top to bottom, the Jaguars don’t appear to have any long term pieces.
Luke Joeckelis likely losing his job this year, ditto for Johnathan Cyprien.
Dwayne Gratzhas regressed since his rookie season and
Denard Robinsonfailed to capitalize on his opportunities last year. The late round picks haven’t really developed either.
Greg Bedard over at SI.com thinks the draft class wasn’t really that bad, handing them a C+ for what they got in 2013.
"GRADE C+Jacksonville Jaguars (Dave Caldwell, Gus Bradley)Average Career Approximate Value: 10.0.First-round pick: OT Luke Joeckel (No. 2)Best pick: DB Demetrius McCray (seventh round)Worst pick: WR Ace Sanders (fourth round)Comment: The Jaguars are yet another team in this class that overdrafted for what they thought was a franchise left tackle. Neither Joeckel nor Fisher nor Johnson has lived up to the billing so far, but they are playing and contributing, and Joeckel has a shot at fulfilling his promise. The Jags didn’t get any great players this year, but they did land contributors for a building team."
A C+ grade is extremely generous – the Jaguars don’t have anything to show for from this class. There’s a decent chance nobody from the 2013 draft is going to start on the Jaguars.
Bedard is a soft grader, as I would give this draft a D+ at best.
