The Jacksonville Jaguars’ 2016 NFL draft has gone well so far, lucking into Jalen Ramsey at fifth overall. But will they miss out on Myles Jack?

Earlier on the morning before Day 2 of the 2016 NFL Draft, Daniel Lago wrote that the Jacksonville Jaguars need to make a move to land linebacker Myles Jack.

This isn’t a move solely out of necessity for the integrity of the defense, but a move born of necessity due to the way the draft works. With a few picks before the Jaguars select at 38th overall, there are plenty of opportunities for another team to jump up and nab Jack before the Jags get the chance. His slide completely out of the first round was unexpected and he’s easily the best available player right now.

But then it was revealed by an unnamed source that the Jaguars wouldn’t move up to draft Jack.

That would lead a Myles Jack-Jacksonville Jaguars pairing to depend on the teams in front of the Jaguars letting him pass. That already seemed unlikely with his talent, even with the concerns about his knee. And then disaster struck:

The announcement that microfracture surgery may be required definitely scared a number of teams away in round one. Now with a clear from the most respected sports surgeon around, Jack should be snatched up immediately.

This presents a clear situation in which the Jaguars will miss out on Jack. Without the knee information it was possible (no matter how slim) that he could be picked at 38th overall. Now, with the reveal from Dr. Andrews, the Jaguars likely have a zero percent chance of having Jack on the board by the time they make their selection.

It’s a tough break, especially after the Jacksonville Jaguars 2016 NFL Draft was coming together so nicely before.
