Jacksonville Jaguars handed some interesting picks in 4-round mock draft

The Jacksonville Jaguars made several big moves in free agency but they still have a few holes on the roster. The most obvious and perhaps important area of need left is pass rusher. While 2015 first round pick Dante Fowler Jr. will certainly help in terms of an edge rushing presence, he’s a complete unknown as an NFL player and expecting him to hit the ground running after a torn ACL is completely unreasonable.

One way the Jaguars can address the pass rush is via the draft. Barring some trade before May, the Jaguars are going to have to draft another edge rusher to stick into the LEO rotation… which is what makes Chad Reuter’s latest 4-round mock draft over at NFL.com quite odd.

For the number 5 pick, Reuter does what I expect the Jaguars to do in this scenario (with Joey Bosa and Jalen Ramsey both off the board):

"PICK 5Myles Jack – LB, UCLA"

"This Jack of all trades will be utilized to his fullest in the Jags’ scheme."

Awful pun aside, Reuter is spot on here. Jack would slide right into the OTTO spot for now and eventually take over at middle linebacker for Paul Posluszny. Jack would instantly be the Jaguars best and most athletic defensive player and he could upgrade the middle of the defense by a significant margin if he projects as well as most think.

After the first round, Reuter sort of goes off a cliff. He has the Jaguars selecting a center in the second round…

"38. Jacksonville Jaguars: Ryan Kelly, C, Alabama"

And then he has them taking a guard in the third round.

"69. Jacksonville Jaguars: Sebastian Tretola, OG, Arkansas"

That’s sheer lunacy. If the Jaguars don’t have another edge rusher by the end of the second day of the draft then something is horribly wrong. The Jaguars seem intent on having Brandon Linder play center so I understand drafting one interior lineman… but two? That’s not happening.

In the fourth round, Reuter has the Jaguars passing on a pass rusher yet again.

"103. Jacksonville Jaguars: Eric Murray, CB, Minnesota"

I think the Jaguars will look for some secondary depth in the draft, but not in lieu of a pass rusher.
