Jacksonville Jaguars Bob Babich fired: 4 possible DC replacements
By Luke Sims
3) Mike Smith
Past Positions: Atlanta Falcons head coach, 2008-2014 (66-46 record); Jacksonville Jaguars defensive coordinator, 2003-2007
Bringing Mike Smith home to the Jacksonville Jaguars would be huge for Gus Bradley and instantly endear him to the fanbase. Smith is respected and, dare I say, loved by the supporters of the Jaguars for the work that he did with Jacksonville.
Fielding numerous top-10 units (never below top-12 in overall defense) during his time with the Jaguars, a return to his roots would allow Smith to settle back down as he scanned the NFL for his next head coaching gig.
While it’s possible that Smith could have head coaching options during this year’s coaching search, it would be interesting to see if he’d weigh a Jaguars offer more than the rest. Like Schwartz, he may see the Jags as an opportunity to move up as well. He has options, so the Jags would have to be highly competitive to land him.
